Propagation of Joy explores the emergence of joy from darkness, sadness, and monotony, and how these experiences are inherently connected. Joy does not exist independently of pain; rather, the experience of one shapes our understanding and experience of the other. Built from the same shapes, and structural forms, the collection reinterprets these elements through color, movement, fluidity, and light. Rather than replacing what came before, joy emerges from the same substance, taking shape through improvisation, bursts of flowing color and opalescent beads. The collection explores how joy grows out of sadness, not by replacing it completely, but by reworking those experiences into something familiar, yet new.
Crafted from hand-dyed upcycled and sustainable fabrics, the collection consists of many modular separates that can be combined to create different looks. All looks are hand-beaded and several pleating and scrap-applique methods are employed.
